I have been diving and doing underwater photography for about 10 years in the Bunaken Marine National Park with the team of Siladen Resort & Spa. The last 3 years I got amazed by blackwater diving and the strange creature you encounter.

As I had problems to identify the incredible creatures on my photos, I selected the best 200 pictures from my 16 blackwater dives so far and did my best to identify the creatures through existing data from the internet (see Section „BW CREATURES ID“). This resulted in this initial guide on black water diving for the Bunaken Marine National Park to help guests and guides to identify their encounters.

All photos have been taken with an Olympus OMD EM-1 Mk II and a 60mm lens in a Nauticam housing with two Sea&Sea strobes. The blackwater dives in the Park are all 500-800 m above ground between the islands. Besides picturing the creatures you have to find them and that would have been impossible without my guide Noldi from Siladen Resort & Spa as well as the whole dive team.
